The restoration.

thumb_ist11On the 23rd of October 1988 Vladyko Simon Archbishop of Ryazan and Kasimov, Archimandrite Abel, Protodeacon Iliya, Psalm-reader Maria arrived to the monastery (the warehouses of Interior Ministry troops were situated there at that time). They brought the icon of the Theotokos of Iberia to the Holy Spring and celebrated a moleben at it. They met several pious old women, who told them that the last Father Superior of the cloister Archimandrite Zosima said to them "The monastery will be closed, will be razed to the ground. But you should go to the stones to pray on them. God will hear and open the monastery".

thumb_ist3It happened just so. The prayer would never stop at the holy place. In the year of the thousandth anniversary of the Baptism of Russia, in 1988, St. John the Theologian Monastery was the first to open in Ryazan land. And here again the Will of God was shown: in 1931 on the Feast of the Holy Trinity monastic life came to an end and started again on the Holy Trinity Paternal Saturday. In 1989 the Father Superior of the monastery made the first monk. The monastery began to rise from the ashes.

On the 4th of March 1991 a place for the building of a new chapel and a new bathhouse was consecrated. In the middle of the period of Pentecost an icon of the Theotokos "The Life-giving Spring" consecrated the day before was placed there. This day may be considered the day of the restoration of the Holy Spring.

A new five-domed chapel was built with the financial support of the benefactors. It was constructed on the old basement at the blessing and active support of His Eminence Joseph the Archbishop of Voznesensk and Kinishemsk who had been the Father Superior of the monastery since 2004 till 2006.

In the autumn of 2008 a new beautiful bathhouse with separate pools for men and women appeared. A separate bathhouse was built for the brethren of the monastery too.
